Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah reached out to Wipro founder Azim Premji with a fresh idea to tackle Bengaluru’s notorious traffic woes. In a letter dated September 19, he asked the IT giant to open up its campus for limited vehicle access along the busy Outer Ring Road (ORR) corridor, especially near the Iblur junction.
Bengaluru drivers know all too well how peak-hour gridlock turns commutes into nightmares. Siddaramaiah highlighted that this congestion hurts everything from daily mobility to workers’ productivity and the city’s overall vibe. “I extend my warm greetings and appreciate Wipro’s ongoing role in boosting Karnataka’s IT scene and economic growth,” he wrote.
The proposal? Let some vehicles pass through the Wipro campus under agreed rules and security checks. Traffic experts have crunched the numbers and say this could slash ORR congestion by up to 30% during rush hours, making a real dent in the chaos.
Siddaramaiah stressed that Premji’s backing here would smooth out bottlenecks, make rides easier for commuters, and help build a smoother, more livable Bengaluru. He urged Wipro’s team to team up with state officials soon to hammer out a plan.
On a related note, Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar pushed back Tuesday against complaints about Bengaluru’s pothole-plagued roads. He pointed out that even the street to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Delhi home has potholes, so the fuss over Karnataka feels overblown.
Shivakumar shared that crews are filling nearly 1,000 potholes every day across the city through teamwork. His comments came after industrialists voiced worries and Union Minister HD Kumaraswamy dubbed Bengaluru the “city of potholes.”
