Kochi, Oct 7 – The Kerala High Court dismissed a petition that challenged the use of Madrasathul Islamiya Mosque in Kummanadu Ward, Kizhakkambalam Panchayat, as a polling site for the local body elections set for December.
The Twenty 20 Party had filed the case last week, arguing that holding voting inside a mosque violates the State Election Commission’s rule that polling places must stay neutral. They wanted the authorities to lift the mosque and pick a different, non‑religious venue.
During Tuesday’s hearing, Justice C.S. Dias informed the court that the District Election Officer already moved the polling station to a nearby Anganwadi centre. The State Election Commissioner approved the change after pages of reports and an all‑party meeting on September 12.
Because the issue had been resolved, the bench closed the petition. This decision allows the voters in Ward No. 7 to head to the new polling site without litigation slowing the schedule.
The move showcases the Election Commission’s focus on keeping polling stations free from religious bias, a priority as Kerala prepares to hold its local body elections early next month.
