CBI arrests two persons including branch manager of UP Grameen Bank for accepting bribe
In a major crackdown on corruption, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested the branch manager of UP Grameen Bank and a private individual on Wednesday for taking a Rs 30,000 bribe. The duo got caught red-handed while demanding the money from a farmer looking to boost his Kisan Credit Card (KCC) loan.
The accused are Narayan Singh Solanki, the branch manager at the Sankisha branch in Farrukhabad district, Uttar Pradesh, and Chandan, a private person acting as a middleman. According to CBI officials, Solanki allegedly asked for the bribe through Chandan to increase the complainant’s KCC loan limit from Rs 2.4 lakh to Rs 6 lakh. The agency filed a case against them earlier this month based on these bribery allegations.
CBI teams set up a trap and nabbed both men on September 10 as they accepted the Rs 30,000 in a clear case of criminal conspiracy. They will be produced in court on September 11, and the investigation into this UP Grameen Bank bribery case is still ongoing.
This arrest shows CBI’s strong push against corruption in government banks and public services. It comes as part of their anti-corruption drive to ensure accountability and build trust in institutions like rural banks that support farmers and small businesses.
Note that UP Grameen Bank is now part of the newly merged Baroda U.P. Bank, following a 2019 government order that combined several gramin banks under Bank of Baroda’s sponsorship. These banks aim to provide easy access to loans, financial services, and literacy programs for rural India, helping farmers, women, and underbanked communities grow sustainably.
