Thiruvananthapuram, Nov 9 – Kerala’s health ministry plans a meeting with the Kerala Government Medical College Teachers’ Association (KGMCTA) to stop a strike that could shut down government hospitals.
Health Minister Veena George will chair the talks on Monday. The goal is to resolve long‑standing teacher demands such as salary increases, back‑pay since 2016, and more teaching posts.
Earlier this week, KGMCTA called a nationwide strike. The move may halt outpatient and inpatient services, but emergency care will keep running. The teachers blame the state’s slow response to their earlier letters, which led to a one‑day duty walkout in August.
The union says it will only end the strike if the government proposes real solutions. It wants immediate pay cuts checked, salary errors fixed, new staff hired, and upgrades to college facilities.
Hospital staff warn that the strike threatens patient care, training schedules, and research. The result of this Monday meeting could decide whether the strike continues or ends.
