Mystery shrouds over couple’s death in West Bengal

November 16, 2025 – Police in Siliguri, West Bengal, recovered the bodies of a married couple from the banks of the Sahu River early in the morning.

Anima Mandal’s body lay on the riverbank with her throat slit, while Tapan Mandal was found hanging from a nearby tree. Local villagers spotted the pair around 7 a.m. and called the police.

The authorities are working hard to determine what happened. “We don’t yet know if this was a double murder or a case of suicide after a crime,” a senior officer said. The investigation will look at every angle, from the couple’s daily routine to any possible motives.

Tapan, a mason, and Anima, who worked in a factory, were married more than twenty years and had two sons. The couple lived in the Bholapara area of Siliguri and were usually home by a set time after work. Family members first noticed they were missing on Saturday evening. The family tried to reach them on their phones, but received no response. No sign of trouble in the household or a recent quarrel has been reported.

Police searched homes, playgrounds and nearby forests, but found no trace of the couple until the river scene. The bodies were taken for autopsies, and the police are now tracing who might have driven this tragic event. Meanwhile, residents are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity near the Sahu River or the surrounding forested areas.
