ECI reviews Gujarat’s electoral roll; 5.08-cr voters registered across state

Gandhinagar, Nov. 7 – Gujarat’s voters are getting a fresh, accurate list thanks to a new effort called the Special Intensive Revision, or SIR, led by the Election Commission of India (ECI). The campaign is tightening up the state’s electoral rolls ahead of the next big elections.

At a meeting in Gandhinagar, ECI Director Shubhra Saxena and Secretary Binod Kumar sat down with state officials to review how the SIR is rolling out. Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Harit Shukla gave the latest numbers. As of Oct. 27, 2025, Gujarat has 5,084,343 registered voters. The state is already printing and sending out forms, with 5,038,302 printed and 1,010,458 delivered. The rest are on their way.

The meeting focused on how to get the forms to every citizen. ECI advisers showed District Election Officers (DEOs) and city managers how to guide voters in filling out the paperwork, ensuring nobody falls through the cracks. The Commission also tapped the senior staff of eight municipal corporations as Special Additional District Election Officers. These teams will help staff electoral officers cover more people, especially in busy areas.

In Kalol township, local election workers are already on the ground, checking names door‑to‑door and making sure newcomers are added and errors are fixed.

The SIR drive makes sure every eligible voter is on the list. Booth Level Officers walk the streets, spot new voters, correct mistakes, and clear duplicate entries. Every household receives an enumeration form, which they can fill out and return to keep the roll current. The ECI wants to make the registration process transparent and easy, and it encourages the use of digital tools to track progress.

By cleaning the voter list, Gujarat aims to keep its upcoming elections fair, inclusive, and free from mistakes. The campaign is part of the ECI’s national strategy to keep India’s democracy strong.
