Los Angeles, Oct. 8 – The Philadelphia Phillies jolted past the Los Angeles Dodgers 8‑1 in Game 3 of the NL Division Series, keeping their playoff hopes alive and preventing a sweep.
Kyle Schwarber exploded for two big homers, delivering the first postseason home run by Philadelphia’s leading slugger since the last season. His first blast blasted 455 feet past the right‑field pavilion, a shot that no Dodgers player has ever dodged in a playoff. The homer places Schwarber only behind a 1969‑1973 Pittsburgh legend who’s the only other player to clear the same roof.
After Aaron Nola handled the first two frames, Ranger Suárez took over and kept the Dodgers’ offense in check with one run allowed in five innings. The Phillies’ batting lineup responded at crucial moments: a solo hit by J.T. Realmuto and a two‑run drive from Schwarber in the eighth inning pulled the team into a comfortable lead.
Dodgers star pitcher Clayton Kershaw appeared in relief for his first postseason outing since 2019 and gave up five runs in the eighth, but the Phillies pulled the plug on the Dodgers’ rally before they could add more.
Yoshinobu Yamamoto began the game strong, retiring nine of his first ten batters, but flash‑rotated into the fourth when the Phillies started to pressure him. After a solid stretch from the Phillies, the Dodgers’ two‑run rally stalled when Max Muncy grounded into an inning‑ending double play.
In spite of a solid effort from the Dodgers’ power hitters—Shohei Ohtani, Freddie Freeman, and Mookie Betts—none of them cracked the Phillies’ lineup, with Ohtani and Freeman disappearing 0‑for‑8.
The Phillies’ win keeps the series alive and forces the Dodgers to return to home ball on Thursday for Game 4. Meanwhile, the Dodgers’ fifth‑year pitcher, Alyson 18‑th season, will start the day in the bullpen as the Phillies go for a win that could pave the way to a postseason title.
