Srinagar, Nov 28 – The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Jammu & Kashmir Crime Branch announced that it has officially filed a chargesheet in the relevant court, after two suspects were transferred to judicial custody.
A statement released by the Crime Branch reads, “The Economic Offences Wing of Crime Branch Kashmir has produced a chargesheet before the Hon’ble Court of Special Judge Anti‑Corruption, Anantnag, against Mushtaq Ahmad Bhat, son of Ali Mohammad Bhat, resident of Babapora Qazigund, Tehsil Devsar, District Kulgam, and Mohammad Yousuf Dar, resident of Khandipahari, Harnag, Anantnag.”
The case stemmed from a complaint that Mushtaq Ahmad Bhat, then working as the Patwari of Halqa Khandipahari in Anantnag, colluded with the complainant’s brothers to fraudulently transfer titles for land listed under Khewat Nos. 05 and 07 in Khandipahari, Harnag. This action was taken even though the property was already embroiled in a litigation and subject to a status‑quo order from the Hon’ble Court, a fact that should have been reflected in the revenue records.
Investigations uncovered that the Patwari deliberately withheld key information, facilitated a minority sale of the disputed plot, and forged mutation documents. Mohammad Yousuf Dar was also found to have obtained a counterfeit gift deed allegedly signed by his mother. The supposed witnesses to the deed denied any participation. The complainant further alleged that the Patwari demanded bribes to provide revenue extracts, yet no departmental action was taken even after appeals to senior revenue officials.
The enquiry found the allegations to be prima facie, leading to the filing of FIR No. 45/2015 under sections 420, 468, 471, 120‑B of the RPC, and 5(2) of the PC Act at Police Station Crime Branch Kashmir.
After a comprehensive investigation, the chargesheet has been submitted for judicial review. During the proceedings, the court remanded Mushtaq Ahmad Bhat and Mohammad Yousuf Dar to the judicial lock‑up.
Finally, the EOW remains steadfast in its mission to bring economic offenders to justice and urges the public to stay alert against such fraudulent schemes.
