Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla kicked off his visit to Tirupati with a spiritual touch, offering prayers at the famous Sri Venkateswara Temple in Tirumala, Andhra Pradesh, on Sunday. The serene hilltop shrine drew him in for a special darshan, highlighting his deep respect for the sacred site.
TTD Chairman B.R. Naidu and top officials warmly welcomed Birla upon arrival. After his prayers, priests blessed him with Vedic chants in the Ranganayakula Mandapam. Naidu then honored the Speaker with a traditional sacred shawl, along with temple prasadam and holy water, making the moment even more memorable.
Birla didn’t come alone—Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh Narayan Singh and Andhra Pradesh Deputy Speaker Raghurama Krishnam Raju joined him for the visit. He had reached Tirumala on Saturday evening and stayed overnight at the Sri Krishna Rest House, where TTD Additional Executive Officer Ch Venkaiah Chowdary and others greeted him.
But the trip isn’t just about devotion. On Sunday, Birla teams up with Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu to launch the first national conference on Parliamentary and Legislative committees for women’s empowerment, right here in Tirupati. He’ll also kick off an exhibition and release a special souvenir to mark the event.
The two-day gathering, themed “women’s leadership for Viksit Bharat,” brings together big names like Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh Narayan, Andhra Pradesh Assembly Speaker Ayyanna Patrudu, Deputy Speaker Raghurama Krishnam Raju, Lok Sabha Women’s Committee chairperson Daggubati Purandeswari, and leaders from state and UT committees on women’s empowerment.
Over 250 delegates from across India, including women parliamentarians, legislators, and social activists, will join the discussions. Andhra Pradesh Legislative Secretary General S. Prasanna Kumar shared that Birla himself conceived this conference to unite voices on women’s empowerment. It features reps from the Joint Committee on Women’s Empowerment—with 10 Lok Sabha members, 20 from Rajya Sabha, and state panels—to brainstorm ideas and tackle key issues.
This event promises lively talks on boosting women’s roles in politics and society, all under the Viksit Bharat vision. As Birla wraps up his temple visit, eyes are on how this conference could spark real change for women’s empowerment in India.
