Mumbai, October 2023 – The Maharashtra government has taken several big steps to improve urban infrastructure and make life easier for its residents. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis-led cabinet approved 15 new decisions on Wednesday, focusing on metro projects, road development, and social welfare programs.

One of the key highlights is the approval of major metro expansions across the state. The cabinet approved loans and projects for the Thane Circular Metro, Pune Metro Lines 2 and 4, and the second phase of Nagpur Metro. These metro projects aim to boost public transport and reduce traffic congestion in busy cities.

In Mumbai, the cabinet cleared plans for the ambitious Metro Line 11. This new line will connect Anik Depot and Wadala to the Gateway of India, with a massive budget of over Rs 23,487 crore. Additionally, Pune will see two new metro stations—Balajinagar and Bibvewadi—along with a minor shift of the Katraj station to improve connectivity. The government has allocated Rs 683 crore for these upgrades.

The government also plans to upgrade suburban train services in Mumbai. They approved a loan to buy new local trains under the Mumbai Urban Transport Project Phase-3, and agreed to fund a significant part of these upgrades using government funds. This move aims to enhance daily travel for millions of commuters.

Road projects are also underway. An elevated road connecting Thane to Navi Mumbai International Airport will be built under a public-private partnership (PPP), ensuring faster travel between these busy hubs. Plus, construction of a new Outer Ring Road around Nagpur has been approved, along with traffic islands and bus terminals to improve city traffic flow.

For social welfare, the cabinet increased financial aid for disabled individuals from Rs 1,500 to Rs 2,500 monthly. They also approved policies for better ash management in power plants and introduced a new scholarship scheme to support tribal students in classes 9 and 10.

Lastly, the government approved Rs 3,750 crore for constructing a new High Court complex in Bandra (East), Mumbai. This new building aims to modernize judicial facilities and improve access to justice.

These decisions reflect Maharashtra’s focus on faster urban development, better transportation options, and social support programs. It’s a move towards making the state more modern, convenient, and inclusive for everyone.
