Maharashtra CM Pushes for Fewer Licenses and Faster Approvals to Boost Ease of Doing Business
Mumbai, Sep 19: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis wants to make it super easy for businesses to set up shop in the state. On Friday, he told officials to cut down on the number of licenses needed for new industries and speed up the process. This move aims to improve the ease of doing business in Maharashtra and attract even more investment.
During a key meeting, Fadnavis reviewed the current status of business reforms in the state. He pointed out that Maharashtra already pulls in the most foreign direct investment (FDI) in India. "We need to turn this money into real industries quickly," he said. "Let’s reduce the licenses for new setups and save time for everyone involved."
Fadnavis stressed that the state’s Ease of Doing Business policy is all about building a thriving industrial hub. He wants Maharashtra to become the top model in India for starting new businesses. To make this happen, he directed the Urban Development Department to roll out an AI-based online system for building construction permits. "Once you apply with all the right documents, the system should automatically approve your permit," he explained. This auto-approval setup will cut down wait times and make life simpler for entrepreneurs.
The CM also highlighted that many industry permits involve multiple departments, which can be a hassle. "We should create a single-window system where one application gets you all the approvals," he instructed. He added that entrepreneurs shouldn’t have to reapply or run around. For green industries—those that don’t pollute much—Fadnavis suggested skipping frequent renewals. "Give them permits that last for years, and then review with new regulations," he said.
On licenses issued at the district level, Fadnavis called for better coordination between state departments. "This will help district officials issue approvals faster," he noted. His goal? To build an industry-friendly environment that draws more investments and sparks growth.
These reforms, Fadnavis believes, will push Maharashtra towards its dream of a $1 trillion economy. "Agencies must implement these changes seriously," he urged. "We want entrepreneurs to know that Maharashtra offers the quickest way to start a business in the country."
With these steps, the state is set to become a hotspot for new industries and jobs, making it easier than ever for businesses to thrive.
