The Maharashtra government has moved the finish line for the Ladki Bahin Yojana e‑KYC check to December 31. The earlier cut‑off of November 18 was pushed back after floods, landslides and technical glitches left many women unable to finish the online ID verification.
Women & Child Development Minister Aditi Tatkare announced the decision on Monday. “We want every eligible woman to get the help that the scheme offers,” she said. “When homes were destroyed and phones lost, people couldn’t receive the OTP needed for Aadhaar verification.”
The state’s e‑KYC portal, which lets women prove their identity without paperwork, had been moving fast before the disaster wave. But in districts hit hard by monsoon storms, power outages and broken communication lines turned the process into a nightmare. Some women even struggled because the mobile number linked to their Aadhaar card belonged to a deceased husband or father.
To help, the government will now accept the usual e‑KYC form on any mobile and will allow a death certificate for women who can’t get an OTP. Divorced women need a divorce decree or court order. These changes aim to keep the verification accurate but flexible for those facing personal or technical hurdles.
Minister Tatkare promised the extension would ease the pressure on “lakhs of women” who are part of the Ladki Bahin Yojana. The scheme, which supports low‑income families by giving loans to girls, needs the e‑KYC step to confirm eligibility.
She urged beneficiaries to complete the verification before the new deadline. “Don’t wait until the last minute,” she warned. “Missing the deadline could mean losing out on the loan support.”
The extended period gives women in flood‑affected districts and those dealing with documentation issues a chance to finish the process and keep the financial help flowing. The move underscores the government’s commitment to make sure no woman is denied a benefit because of a broken phone line or a lost pension card.
