Maharashtra’s leaders are stepping up to tackle the heavy rains and flooding hitting the Marathwada region hard. On Sunday, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde assured people that officials are fully alert and ready to handle any more downpours. Speaking in Thane, he said teams have boats and pumps on standby. In areas like Thane and Ulhasnagar, rain has damaged many buildings, so authorities plan to move residents if water builds up. “We’re working as a team to provide relief wherever needed,” Shinde added.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis took a close look at the flood situation in Solapur and Beed districts. He urged officials to ramp up rescue efforts and keep citizens safe as rains keep pouring. In Solapur, rescue teams have already saved 4,002 people from flood-hit spots. About 6,500 others are staying in relief camps stocked with food, clean water, and medical help. The Akshaya Patra Foundation is pitching in by delivering meals to affected villages.
Fadnavis also tackled worries about livestock, ordering quick fodder supplies starting Monday. Teams are assessing damage to homes on a big scale, and as immediate aid, families get Rs 10,000 in cash plus 10 kg each of rice and wheat. Groups like the Naam Foundation are helping out, along with local business owners and leaders. The state is setting up relief cells at district and taluka levels, and health camps will kick off across the area from Monday.
Over in Beed, the rains have pushed 17 dams to full capacity, with two more at nearly 90%. Officials are releasing water only from the Majalgaon Dam to ease pressure. In the last 24 hours, heavy showers battered 48 revenue circles. Some villages in Wadwani taluka lost road access, but emergency teams are reaching them. National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) units and Indian Army personnel are on the ground, carrying out rescues.
Riverside villages are on high alert, with evacuation plans in place. In Ashti, officials moved 60 people to safety. Since September, floods have forced 2,567 families to relocate. Tragically, 10 lives have been lost so far, and eight affected families have received financial support.
Fadnavis told officials in both districts to stay active on-site, team up with state agencies, and keep relief flowing—think steady supplies of food, water, healthcare, and animal feed. He stressed the need for quick evacuations in at-risk areas to avoid more heartbreak amid the ongoing Maharashtra floods.
