On the full‑moon day of Ashwin, India marked Maharishi Valmiki Jayanti, the birthday of the legendary sage who penned the epic Ramayana. The occasion saw the nation’s top leaders – President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari, and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath – all sharing heartfelt tributes on social media.
President Murmu posted on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, calling the day a “time for reflection.” She praised Valmiki as a “symbol of spiritual awakening” and urged citizens to adopt the values he taught in the Ramayana. “Heartfelt greetings on Maharishi Valmiki Jayanti,” she wrote, reminding people that the epic offers lessons on compassion, duty, and ideal living.
Prime Minister Modi also highlighted the sage’s influence. In a post, he said the Ramayana “has given humanity a timeless scripture filled with guidance and righteousness.” He added that the new Ayodhya Ram Temple now stands beside a temple dedicated to Valmiki, linking the past to the present.
Amit Shah echoed this sentiment, pointing out that the Ramayana “conveys the message of humanity, propriety, and righteousness.” He urged readers to let the epic guide them in every life situation.
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari simply paid his respects, wishing all people a “happy Valmiki Jayanti.” Meanwhile, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath threaded the well‑known phrase “Ramo Vigrahavan Dharma” into his tribute, emphasizing Lord Ram’s embodiment of dharma, a concept that Valmiki immortalised.
Maharishi Valmiki’s story is one of redemption—transforming from a highway robber to a revered sage—and the Ramayana remains one of India’s most influential texts, shaping culture, values, and spirituality across centuries.
The Jayanti, celebrated each year on the full moon of Ashwin, has become a moment for Indians of all backgrounds to remember the sage’s legacy and the timeless wisdom of the Ramayana.
