Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge expressed heartfelt thanks to his party workers and supporters on Thursday after a successful pacemaker procedure. The 83-year-old Congress president shared his gratitude on X, saying, “My sincere thanks to the Congress cadres, leaders and supporters for the outpouring of wishes. My deepest gratitude. I intend to start my work schedule soon.”
Kharge’s son, Karnataka IT Minister Priyank Kharge, confirmed the good news earlier in the day. In a post on X, Priyank said the pacemaker implantation went smoothly as a minor procedure, and his father remains stable. “He is expected to resume his work from October 3 and attend all his scheduled engagements,” Priyank added, thanking everyone for their support and concern.
Even Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached out personally. In an X post, Modi wrote, “Spoke to Kharge Ji. Enquired about his health and wished him a speedy recovery. Praying for his continued well-being and long life.” This show of goodwill highlights the ongoing dialogue between India’s top leaders despite political differences.
Looking ahead, Kharge plans to hit the ground running with a trip to Kohima on October 7. He’ll address a major public rally at Naga Solidarity Park, organized by the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee. Lok Sabha MP S Supongmeren Jamir, the committee’s president, announced the event during a press conference in Kohima.
The rally, themed “Safe Democracy, Safe Secularism, Safe Nagaland,” aims to draw at least 10,000 people. Organizers say it will spotlight crucial issues like youth employment, entrepreneurship, better governance, and improved road connectivity in the region. After the rally, Kharge will hold separate meetings with senior Congress members, including the Political Affairs Committee, Pro-Committee, and district presidents.
This visit comes as Kharge bounces back quickly from his health procedure, signaling his commitment to leading the Congress party’s push in Nagaland and beyond.
