A shocking stabbing in Bengaluru has left the city reeling. A 43-year-old man named Lohitashwa, also known as Lokesh, surrendered to police on Tuesday after fatally stabbing his second wife, Rekha, 11 times in broad daylight. The brutal attack happened Monday near a bus stop in Sunkadakatte, right in front of Rekha’s 12-year-old daughter.
Lokesh, a cab driver from Sira town in Tumakuru district, told police he acted out of jealousy. He suspected Rekha of cheating with other men at her job, though investigators say those claims don’t hold up so far. Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) S. Girish confirmed the voluntary surrender and said police charged Lokesh under Section 103 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for murder.
Rekha, a divorced mother of two from Channarayapatna in Hassan district, worked at a private company. She and Lokesh met through mutual friends at work and lived together for about a year and a half before tying the knot recently—it was a second marriage for both. The couple rented a home in Sunkadakatte, but tensions boiled over Lokesh’s demands. He wanted Rekha to send away her older daughter, who lived with them, while leaving the younger one with her parents. Rekha refused, sparking constant fights.
On the day of the attack, the argument at home turned ugly. Rekha stormed out with her daughter and headed to the bus stop. Lokesh followed, pulled out a knife, and stabbed her repeatedly in the chest and elsewhere. Bystanders tried to intervene, but he threatened them and kept going. After the assault, he tossed the knife into the crowd and ran off—only to turn himself in the next day.
