There’s buzz about a high-profile visit by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Northeast India. While official details are yet to be confirmed, preparations are underway in Manipur, Mizoram, and Assam.
In Manipur, authorities are getting ready for a possible visit by a very important guest. The state government has directed officials in Imphal and Churachandpur district to make all necessary arrangements, including security checks, at key locations like Kangla Fort in Imphal. A government notification didn’t specify who the visitor is or the exact date, but a top official mentioned they’re planning for a grand event if the visit happens.
Meanwhile, in Assam, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that Prime Minister Modi is expected to visit on September 13-14. The focus will be on celebrating the birth centenary of legendary singer and cultural icon Bhupen Hazarika. The PM will also inaugurate official celebrations in Guwahati.
In Mizoram, officials have received unofficial information that Prime Minister Modi might visit on September 13 to inaugurate the new Bairabi-Sairang railway line — a major project connecting Mizoram’s capital, Aizawl, to the rest of the country by rail for the first time. However, both Mizoram’s government and Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) say they are still waiting for official confirmation from the Prime Minister’s Office.
The Bairabi-Sairang railway project, costing over Rs 8,000 crore, is seen as a game-changer for Mizoram. Once fully operational, it will improve freight and passenger travel, boost local economy, and connect Mizoram better with other parts of India. The railway line runs through challenging mountainous terrain, featuring 48 tunnels and over 55 bridges, including one of the tallest bridges in India at 104 meters — taller than the Qutub Minar.
The project’s completion marks a historic milestone—making Mizoram the fourth northeastern state to have a rail link, which is a key step toward regional development. Officials say the final nod from the railway safety authority has been given, and trains could soon run on this impressive new route.
In summary, all eyes are on September 13 for potential visits by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Northeast India. If confirmed, these trips will see important events like the inauguration of a major railway project in Mizoram and celebrations in Assam, highlighting the government’s focus on infrastructure and regional progress. Stay tuned for official updates as plans unfold.
