Imphal, Dec 10 (LatestNewsX) – The Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Department of Manipur announced on Wednesday that eligible women across the state will receive free LPG connections under Phase 3.0 of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY).
The move comes after the central government revealed it will provide an extra 25 lakh free LPG connections, reinforcing its goal of empowering women, improving health and easing household chores through cleaner cooking fuel.
Speaking to reporters, Rajjyoti Das, Indane’s Divisional LPG Sales Head for Silchar, explained the new phase’s rules, the paperwork needed and the criteria for eligibility. He added that many households in rural, remote and hilly parts of the state still lack coverage and that the expanded phase is meant to reach those left out earlier.
Das urged families who are now able to afford or still need LPG connections to apply, noting that the scheme targets 25 lakh free connections for the 2025‑2026 cycle.
K. Bono Singh, Director of the State’s Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Department, said that Manipur has already supplied 222,010 free LPG connections under PMUY. He reaffirmed that Phase 3.0 will focus on those who haven’t yet received a connection and highlighted the creation of District Ujjwala Committees to oversee the rollout and guarantee that only qualifying households get the supply.
The Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, launched by the Prime Minister in May 2016, offers deposit‑free LPG connections to adult women from rural and disadvantaged families, providing clean, safe and affordable cooking fuel. To date, more than 10.33 crore deposit‑free LPG connections have been installed across India during Phase 1 (2016) and Phase 2 (2021).
