Amit Shah lauds NCB, Delhi Police for Rs 262 crore drug seizure

On November 23, New Delhi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah reaffirmed the government’s determination to tackle drug trafficking. He praised both the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) and the Delhi Police for a massive seizure of contraband.
“Our government is shattering drug cartels at an unprecedented pace. Fiercely pursuing the top‑to‑bottom and bottom‑to‑top approach to the investigation of drugs, a breakthrough was achieved by seizing 328 kg of methamphetamine worth Rs 262 crore in New Delhi and arresting two,” he wrote in a post on X.
“The operation was a brilliant example of seamless multi‑agency coordination to achieve Prime Minister Narendra Modi Ji’s vision for a drug‑free India. Congratulations to the joint team of NCB and Delhi Police,” he added.
In related news, the NCB released a statement that its Bhubaneswar Zonal Unit had secured convictions for three individuals involved in a drug‑trafficking ring. The case, stemming from an August 13, 2021 arrest, began when NCB officers seized 20 kg of opium from three suspects. Further investigation revealed that the narcotics were smuggled between states, hidden inside a specially constructed cavity in the driver’s compartment of a truck. All three were charge‑sheltered in February 2022 and the truck was subsequently confiscated.
The convicts—Vijay Bhan, Suraj Pal, and Surendra, all residents of Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh—are now facing a 10‑year sentence of rigorous imprisonment each, along with a fine of Rs 1 lakh under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. An NCB official highlighted that these convictions reinforce the bureau’s commitment to dismantling cross‑state drug‑trafficking networks. This outcome represents the third successful conviction by the Bhubaneswar unit in the current calendar year.
