BJP writes to CEO Bengal, alleging appointment of Trinamool-affiliated BLOs in Nandigram

Bengal’s next year Assembly poll race heats up as the BJP accuses the ruling Trinamool Congress of tampering with the state’s voter list.
On Sunday, the BJP sent a letter to the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of West Bengal, alleging that several Booth Level Officers (BLOs) in the Nandigram Assembly constituency of East Midnapore district are run by TMC activists or their spouses. The party says these appointments give the ruling party an unfair edge in the upcoming 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections.
The BJP highlighted that the problem of improper BLO appointments has continued despite earlier warnings. “We again provide you a list of such appointments, many of which involve current BLOs who are directly linked to the TMC, either as activists or through a spouse,” the letter read.
According to the BJP, these biased appointments could distort the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of West Bengal’s electoral rolls – a process carried out by the Election Commission to correct mistakes in voter lists. “With the enumeration phase of the SIR just days away, complaints about wrong BLO appointments keep piling up and threaten to spoil the process,” the party added.
To address the issue, the BJP supplied names, dates and evidence showing the TMC links of these officers. The party demanded that the CEO remove the affected BLOs and hold responsible the EROs and DEOs who oversaw their appointments.
The dispute over the West Bengal electoral rolls has become a flashpoint between the BJP and the TMC, both parties keen to secure every advantage ahead of the 2026 Assembly polls.
