Kolkata’s Durga Puja celebrations got a boost today as the weather office promised no heavy rain for the next two days. While some light showers might pop up in isolated spots around the city, revellers can mostly enjoy the festivities without getting soaked.
Sunday kicked off Shasthi with clear skies in the morning, lifting spirits across Kolkata. Crowds flocked to Durga Puja pandals, soaking in the vibrant atmosphere. Expect scattered light rain later in the day in a few areas, but nothing to dampen the fun.
That said, changes are on the horizon. Starting Wednesday night—right around Navami—a low-pressure system could brew in the Bay of Bengal. This might trigger heavy rains in Kolkata on Thursday, which is Dashami, and into Friday. A weather official noted, “We see no heavy rain until Ashtami on Tuesday. But that new low-pressure area on Navami will bring downpours across south Bengal districts, including Kolkata, on Dashami and Ekadashi.” The system could also stir up rough seas, so fishermen should stay ashore from October 1.
Forecasts show slim chances of rain in south Bengal on Monday and Tuesday. From Thursday, though, brace for possible heavy showers in Kolkata, Nadia, North 24 Parganas, South 24 Parganas, East Midnapore, West Midnapore, Howrah, Hooghly, and Jhargram.
Up north, things look stormier today with warnings for thunderstorms in Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, North Dinajpur, South Dinajpur, and Malda. Rain should ease in north Bengal by Monday, but thunderstorms could return Wednesday and ramp up Thursday.
Kolkata’s minimum temperature today hit 27.8 degrees Celsius, while Saturday’s high reached 32.6 degrees. Keep an eye on updates as Durga Puja weather in Kolkata shifts—perfect for planning your pandal-hopping!
