In the town of Seoni last Wednesday, Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav sent a massive cash boost straight into the bank accounts of more than 12 million women in Madhya Pradesh. The transfer – worth over Rs 1 857 crore – is part of the state’s flagship Mukhyamantri Ladli Behan Yojana and brings their monthly payment up to Rs 1 500 from the earlier Rs 1 250.
The BJP‑led government said it will raise the pay even further, targeting Rs 3 000 per month for future disbursements. With this latest instalment, the total aid the scheme has released since it kicked off in June 2023 tops Rs 44 917.92 crore.
While announcing the transfer, Dr Yadav also earmarked Rs 560 crore for development projects in the district. He met with dozens of recipients, highlighting how the scheme boosts women’s economic independence, earns them greater social respect and gives them a larger say in family decisions.
Women in the crowd shared how the extra money helps cover groceries, children’s schooling, health care and even seed capital for small businesses. Several called the CM “brother Mohan” and compared his care for them to that of Lord Krishna looking after his sister Subhadra.
The Ladli Behan Yojana has been running for nearly two and a half years, distributing 29 monthly instalments up to October 2025. Each year, women also received a special Raksha Bandhan cash grant of Rs 250 in August 2023, 2024 and 2025. The direct benefit transfer model keeps funds transparent and connects women to the formal banking system.
The programme reaches every one of Madhya Pradesh’s 52 districts. Indore leads with over 440 000 enrolled women, followed by Sagar, Rewa, Chhindwara, Dhar and Jabalpur, all with more than 380 000 each. Even smaller districts saw substantial gains—Harda received support for almost 94 000 women and Niwari for 80 000.
State officials say the scheme narrows gender gaps in financial access and decision‑making power. Dr Yadav pledged that the state will keep the program alive, ensuring millions of sisters across both cities and villages keep moving toward empowerment.
The Seoni event closed with local music and heartfelt testimonials, underscoring the scheme’s role in building a more inclusive society.
