World Athletics C’ships: Neeraj Chopra vs Arshad Nadeem javelin final – when and where to watch

Get ready for an epic showdown in Tokyo! India’s javelin star Neeraj Chopra is set to face off against Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem in the World Athletics Championships javelin final on Thursday. This rivalry has gripped fans worldwide, and with Neeraj defending his world title, the excitement is through the roof.

Neeraj Chopra made qualifying for the final look like a breeze on Wednesday. He nailed it in just one throw, hitting 84.85 meters—well above the automatic mark of 84.50. This isn’t new for the Haryana hero; it’s the fifth straight time he’s breezed into a major final with a single attempt. Think back to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, 2022 and 2023 World Championships, and even the 2024 Paris Olympics. The guy means business!

Germany’s Julian Weber joined the party next, qualifying on his second try with a strong 87.21 meters after an opening 82.29. From India, Sachin Yadav also made the cut, though it was a nail-biter—he had to wait it out before scraping through. And of course, Arshad Nadeem, the Olympic champ from Pakistan, saved his best for last, qualifying in his final attempt.

For Neeraj, this is huge. The 27-year-old won gold at the 2023 Budapest World Championships with an 88.17-meter throw, becoming India’s first-ever athletics world champion. Arshad grabbed silver there with 87.82 meters. But things heated up at the 2024 Paris Olympics, where Arshad stunned everyone with a monster 92.97-meter throw to snag gold, leaving Neeraj with silver at 89.45 meters. Neeraj’s already hit over 90 meters this season, so he’s chasing history once more.

The final isn’t just about these two—it’s a stacked field with tough competitors like former world champ Anderson Peters, Julian Weber again, and Kenya’s Julius Yego. But let’s be real: all eyes will be on the Neeraj Chopra vs Arshad Nadeem javelin rivalry, which has put South Asian athletics on the global map.

Don’t miss the World Athletics Championships javelin final! It kicks off on Thursday, September 18, 2025, at 4:00 PM IST. Catch the live telecast on Star Sports Select 1 and Star Sports Select 1 HD, or stream it on the JioCinema app and website. Who do you think will throw the winning spear?
