On Saturday, Union Minister of State for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises and Labour, Shobha Karandlaje, spoke at the Kannada Rajyotsava celebration held at the BJP headquarters in Bengaluru. She urged newcomers to Karnataka to respect the state’s language and people.
“Anyone can come to Karnataka, just as people from here can settle elsewhere,” she said. “But if you make Karnataka your home, you must respect the language and the people of this land.” Karandlaje added that the Kannada flag, raised by residents even abroad, symbolizes good fortune and pride.
She paid tribute to the leaders who fought for Karnataka’s unity and the official status of Kannada. “It is our duty to preserve and promote Kannada,” she urged. She called for more Kannada usage in everyday conversations, business, and government.
The celebration at Jagannath Bhavan in Bengaluru saw the flag hoisted and a spirited speech. Karandlaje also directed her criticism toward the state government. She said the Congress‑led administration repeatedly misses road‑repair deadlines, leaving residents exposed to dangerous potholes. “In Bengaluru, more than six people have died on two‑wheelers because of poor road conditions,” she said. “Who will take responsibility for these deaths? Who will care for the families?”
She accused the ministers of misrule and prioritising power over public welfare. “Siddaramaiah is busy with events while people suffer from dilapidated roads,” she warned. “Investors are reconsidering Bengaluru because it has turned into a city of potholes.” She added that residents from across the world notice the city’s declining condition.
On waste management, the minister criticised the city’s practice of dumping garbage outside residents’ homes. “Those who can’t manage efficiently resort to such measures,” she said. “We collect taxes for rubbish removal, yet the state and city officials fail to deliver.”
Karandlaje’s remarks came as Karnataka celebrated its 102nd statehood day. The Tamil‑Delhi‑official, speaking at the BJP state headquarters, emphasised respect for Kannada and the need to hold local leaders accountable. Her speech highlights the ongoing challenges of infrastructure, safety and civic services in Bengaluru—a key point for anyone looking into Karnataka’s future.
