Bhopal, Oct 7 – The Madhya Pradesh Employees Selection Board, formerly known as Vyapam, will kick off a written exam on Oct 30 to hire 7,500 new police constables. After the test, candidates will face a physical fitness test run by the state police.
This is the first police recruitment drive under Chief Minister Mohan Yadav’s BJP government. In 2023, a former CM, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, oversaw a similar exam that fell under scrutiny for alleged irregularities.
The board received 976,000 applications for 7,500 spots – roughly 13,000 people competing for one job. The online test will be held at centres in 11 districts: Bhopal, Indore, Jabalpur, Khandwa, Neemuch, Rewa, Ratlam, Sagar, Satna, Sidhi and Ujjain.
In 2023, a Gwalior fraud was uncovered when five candidates used a solver to cheat on the written round. An FIR was lodged, sparking political controversy ahead of the state elections. Protests from job‑seekers prompted the government to pause new appointments for months. A later probe revealed that some candidates had altered their Aadhaar photos before and after the exam, allowing them to appear fraudulently.
Consequently, none of the 11 exam centres this year are in the Gwalior‑Chambal region, which has a history of recruitment irregularities.
Total applicants include 42 PhD holders and over 12,000 engineers, all hoping for a police constable role that offers a monthly pay of ₹19,500 to ₹62,000. The online registration opened on Sep 15 and initially closed on Sep 29, but the deadline was pushed to Oct 6 because of the huge volume of applications.
