Mumbai Police Files FIR After Fake Bomb Threat Email to Bombay High Court
Mumbai Police have taken swift action against a fake bomb threat that shook the Bombay High Court. On Friday, the court received an alarming email warning of a bomb, prompting a quick evacuation of lawyers, staff, and visitors. No explosives were found, but the incident has sparked a full investigation into bomb threat hoaxes in India.
The FIR was lodged at Azad Maidan Police Station against an unidentified suspect. It falls under sections 353(1) and 353(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which target public mischief like spreading false alarms via email to create panic or disrupt order. This law aims to curb dangerous pranks that can stir fear or even incite unrest.
Advocate Mangala Waghe, speaking to , shared the chaos: "The Bombay High Court got a bomb threat email today. Everyone vacated the premises immediately, and police are now probing the matter." Authorities confirmed the search turned up nothing suspicious, but they’re digging deeper to trace the sender.
This isn’t an isolated case. Just a day earlier, on September 12, the Delhi High Court faced a similar scare. An email threatened a bomb blast in and around the premises, causing panic and halting court sessions. All benches, lawyers, litigants, and staff rushed out as Delhi Police and bomb disposal teams sealed the area for a thorough check.
New Delhi’s Deputy Commissioner of Police, Devesh Kumar Mahla, later called it a hoax after the inspection. "The bomb threat to Delhi High Court appears fake so far," he said. Delhi Police have also filed an FIR and are tracking the email’s origin to nab the culprit.
These back-to-back bomb threat emails highlight rising concerns over hoax threats targeting key institutions in India. Police in both cities are on high alert, urging the public to report any suspicious activity. As investigations continue, officials stress that such false alarms waste resources and endanger lives—stay safe and vigilant.
