In Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir’s Lt Governor Manoj Sinha issued a strong warning on Saturday about the dangerous social media narratives pushed by terror groups like The Resistance Front (TRF). He stressed that people in the region must unite against terrorists and actively fight back against extremist propaganda to protect peace and stability.
Sinha, speaking at a local event, urged residents not to ignore TRF’s online messages. “It would be very dangerous if we remain silent, and it’s important that we pay attention to countering such a narrative,” he said. He linked this fight directly to supporting peace, adding that battling terrorism isn’t just for security forces—citizens play a key role too. This year alone, more than 40 lives have been lost to terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir, and Sinha called for everyone to help wipe it out completely.
“I believe people must come forward,” he emphasized, highlighting positive changes in the region. Despite decades of hardship, stone-pelting incidents have faded, and local recruitment into terrorist groups has dropped sharply. Sinha pointed to the 2019 abrogation of Article 370 as a turning point, sparking major progress in Jammu and Kashmir’s history.
He spotlighted recent government moves, like granting Scheduled Tribe (ST) status to the Pahari community, bolstering the Forest Rights Act, and launching Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas. These steps show a clear push for social and economic justice. “Now equal rights are being given to the Pahari community. No one can stop this community. What is their right will be given to this community,” Sinha declared.
On a national level, Sinha noted that terrorism and left-wing extremism have declined significantly, especially in India’s northeast. He expressed optimism that Naxalism will soon be eradicated. For Jammu and Kashmir, which has endured so much, ending terrorism is essential. “Security agencies are doing their job, and we as citizens must behave responsibly and not engage in any wrong activities,” he said.
Under Sinha’s oversight, security forces have revamped their counter-terrorism strategy in Jammu and Kashmir. They now go beyond just targeting armed terrorists, launching aggressive operations against overground workers (OGWs) and sympathizers to break down the entire terror network.
