Nation mourns Red Fort blast: Leaders across demand probe, offer condolences

New Delhi – A huge explosion tore through a car at Gate 1 of Delhi’s Red Fort Metro Station on Monday night, killing ten people and leaving many more badly injured. The blast happened right at a busy traffic signal in Old Delhi, sending shock waves through the historic area and igniting nearby vehicles. Firefighters fought the flames with seven fire tenders, and the police quickly sealed off the site.
Eyewitnesses described the sound as a “deafening roar” and saw thick black smoke billowing from the wreckage. The incident comes just minutes after J‑K police dismantled a trans‑national terror cell linked to Jaish‑e‑Mohammad and Ansar Ghazwat‑ul‑Hind in Faridabad, where they seized 2,900 kg of explosives, assault rifles, pistols and other weapons. Seven people have already been arrested in that operation.
Political leaders from across the country reacted with shock and grief. Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge called the blast “extremely distressing” and demanded a thorough investigation in the high‑security zone. Karnataka minister Santosh Lad and Tamil Nadu chief minister M.K. Stalin both offered condolences, with Stalin remarking that the scenes were “heart‑breaking.” Shiv Sena’s Aaditya Thackeray and its spokesperson Susieben Shah expressed sorrow and prayed for the injured. Congress’s Randeep Singh Surjewala described the event as “painful and alarming,” while Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav urged a comprehensive probe to restore public confidence. Jharkhand chief minister Hemant Soren and Trinamool MP Mahua Moitra also expressed deep distress and offered prayers.
The explosion’s timing is especially tense, as it occurs just a day before the second phase of the Bihar assembly elections. Delhi Police Commissioner Satish Golcha said the blast’s force was “intense” and that emergency services worked swiftly to prevent further damage.
As investigators dig deeper, the nation watches closely, hoping for clarity on the motive behind the attack and assurances that measures will protect Delhi’s historic and crowded streets from future threats.
