In Bihar, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) organized a five-hour bandh on Thursday to protest against offensive remarks made from the Congress stage in Darbhanga. The controversy erupted during the ‘Voter Adhikar Yatra,’ when some Congress leaders used derogatory language against Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s mother.
The bandh ran from 7 a.m. to noon and mainly affected non-essential services. During the morning, some areas experienced partial disruptions, especially in districts like Siwan, Darbhanga, Ara, and parts of Patna. People from parties like BJP, JD(U), LJP(RV), HAM, and RLM took out rallies with flags and banners, leading to shop closures and traffic delays in many places.
Though traffic was affected on several routes, traffic around Patna’s Income Tax intersection remained normal, thanks to increased police presence. Some schools in Patna also closed as a precaution.
NDA leaders strongly condemned the comments, saying they insult not just PM Modi’s mother but 140 crore Indians. They emphasized that in Indian culture, mothers are revered as goddess-like figures and attacking them is an attack on social and democratic values.
Women leaders from the BJP Mahila Morcha also voiced their condemnation, criticizing the language used during the rally. They said, “Abusing a mother who carries a child for nine months is an attack on our culture and society.”
The NDA leaders also questioned the silence of the opposition, or the ‘Mahagathbandhan,’ asking why they haven’t apologized for the remarks. They warned that if justice is not served, protests could escalate beyond the current bandh.
The main aim of the NDA’s protest was to rally public support and highlight the importance of respecting women and cultural values. They declared that the honor of mothers has become a key issue in this political fight, and they will not let it be compromised.
This controversy has sparked a strong reaction across Bihar, with the NDA emphasizing the need to protect cultural respect and dignity in politics.
