NIA Uncovers Hand Grenades and Pistol in Amritsar Temple Grenade Attack Probe
In a major breakthrough, India’s National Investigation Agency (NIA) has recovered three hand grenades and a .30 bore pistol linked to the shocking grenade attack on Amritsar’s Thakurdwara Sanatan temple. This discovery exposes a deep-rooted transnational terror conspiracy, involving a big arms and explosives syndicate, the NIA revealed on Thursday.
The recovery happened thanks to key information from accused Sharanjeet Kumar, alias Sunny. Investigators followed his leads to Village Bhamri in Batala, Punjab, where they dug up the hidden grenades.
According to the NIA’s statement, foreign-based handlers supplied the pistol to Sharanjeet as part of a plot by terrorist groups to shatter peace in Punjab. "These terror outfits aimed to create chaos and disturb harmony," the agency noted.
The seized items—grenades and pistol—are now undergoing detailed forensic and technical tests to uncover more clues.
Sharanjeet, arrested by the NIA from Gaya in Bihar last Friday, played a key role in the March 2025 attack. Bike-borne attackers Gursidak Singh and Vishal Gill hurled the grenade at the temple, following orders from overseas masters.
NIA sleuths grilled Sharanjeet, who pointed them to the exact spot in Batala, Gurdaspur district, where the grenades were stashed. He confessed that he received four grenades on March 1, 2025, and passed one to the attackers just two days before the March 15 strike.
Digging deeper, the NIA’s probe has unmasked a web of terror handlers operating from Europe, the USA, and Canada. These masterminds supplied weapons, cash, logistics, and even target info to their India-based foot soldiers, all to spark violence in Punjab and beyond.
The investigation into this Punjab terror plot continues, with the NIA determined to dismantle the entire network. Stay tuned for updates on this ongoing Amritsar grenade attack case.
