Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha kicked off Durga Puja festivities in Agartala with a series of pandal inaugurations on Thursday. He visited popular spots like Flowers Club at Math Chowmuhani, Shib Nagar Modern Club & Amra Tarun Dal, Gandouse Club, Central Road Yuva Sanghstha, and Netaji Play Centre at Netaji Chowmuhani. Crowds of organizers and devotees turned out in force, and Saha’s presence sparked extra excitement for the celebrations.
Organizers thanked Saha for stopping by, noting that his visit brought fresh energy and joy to the Durga Puja events in Tripura’s capital.
Over in West Bengal, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee lit up the Durga Puja mood by inaugurating the pandal at Alipore Bodyguard Lines in Kolkata the same day. She showered praise on the police for their tireless work during festivals and crises, highlighting how they set up relief camps and community kitchens to help communities.
Banerjee even named a new ambulance “Sebashree” to honor the police’s community efforts. Speaking to the crowd, she said, “I want to tell my police family that the world cannot run without you. During any festival, you hardly get time at home. In every disaster, you are the first to step in, and despite that, nobody hears complaints from you. Salute to all of you, and salute to my police family.”
She added that she’d seen police pitch in during disasters, even using their own funds for initiatives like this ambulance. Banerjee also tipped her hat to the organizers for creatively featuring Jagannath Dham in the pandal theme, despite their packed schedules.
Pushing for more women in the police force, Banerjee shared a personal story. She recalled boating to the Bodyguard Lines area as MP from Jadavpur to tackle waterlogging issues. “In the coming days, I want to see more women forces in the police,” she said. “When I was the MP from Jadavpur, I used to come to the Bodyguard Line by boat to see the waterlogging. There used to be a lot of water here, but after many complaints, when we came to power, this place was restructured.”
She credited team efforts, including Kolkata Mayor Firhad Hakim, for transforming the spot. Banerjee urged everyone to ignore negativity and keep pushing forward, just like she does despite daily criticism. Durga Puja celebrations continue to build across India, blending tradition, community spirit, and local pride.
