Police in Hassan, Karnataka, have kicked off a full investigation after a sudden blast rocked a local home on September 29. The explosion happened around 8:30 PM, catching a family off guard and leaving two members with serious injuries.
Mohan Kumar, the homeowner, reported the incident to Alur Police Station that same night. He was at home with his son Sudarshan, daughter-in-law Kavya, and grandchildren when the blast hit near the washroom, right by the backyard compound.
The force of the explosion caused major burns to Sudarshan and Kavya. Right now, they’re fighting for their lives in critical condition at a hospital in Bangalore. Mohan Kumar and the kids got lucky with just minor scrapes or no harm at all.
Sudarshan works full-time at Bosch, the big auto parts company, and picks up extra cash as a part-time carpenter. His dad told police the blast might stem from some carpentry tools or a gas cylinder nearby.
Hassan Superintendent of Police Mohammed Sujeetha says they’re not jumping to conclusions on a simple cylinder explosion. “We’re digging deeper,” she explained. Teams are grabbing samples from the site, like chemical traces, metal scraps, and carpentry gear, to pinpoint what went wrong.
Right now, forensics experts from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) and scene-of-crime officers are combing the area. A specialist squad from Bangalore is also on hand to analyze everything and rule out any hidden causes in this Karnataka house blast.
