Nitish Kumar thanks PM Modi as NDA heads for unprecedented victory in Bihar

Patna – Nitish Kumar, the Chief Minister of Bihar and leader of the Janata Dal (United) or JD(U), rang out thanks to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and all the voters of Bihar after the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) crossed the historic 200‑seat mark in Bihar’s 243‑seat assembly.

In a statement released after the latest exit polls showed the NDA winning almost 83% of the seats, Kumar said the people of Bihar had “reaffirmed their faith” in the government. He praised the voters, saying his government had earned their confidence by winning a massive majority.

“I bow to all the esteemed voters of the state and thank them for their support,” Kumar said. He added that the success was also due to the alliance’s unity and the backing of senior leaders such as Chandraprakash Singh “Chirag” Paswan, Jitan Ram Manjhi and Upendra Kushwaha. The JD(U) itself has won 48 seats and is looking good for about 36 more, bringing its total to 84 seats.

The BJP and other regional partners in the NDA – including HAMS, RLM and LJP(R) – played a key role in the bloc’s sweeping victory. The opposition coalition, the Mahagathbandhan, struggled, tallying only about 35 seats – one of its weakest performances.

Kumar’s post thanked PM Modi, Paswan, Manjhi and Kushwaha, underscoring the teamwork that helped the NDA tag a historic majority in the 2025 Bihar legislative assembly election.
