Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha gave a big shoutout to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday for his recent visit to Manipur. Saha highlighted how no other PM has shown as much care for the Northeast as Modi, who’s made over 60 trips to the region since becoming Prime Minister in 2014. “The situation in Manipur is very good now, and the Prime Minister is there,” Saha said, adding that Modi will also head to Tripura on September 22.
During the visit, Modi will inaugurate the revamped Mata Tripura Sundari Temple—one of the sacred 51 Shakti Peeths—and perform puja there. Saha shared that the temple’s development followed Modi’s vision. “We’ve built it just as the Prime Minister wished,” he noted, praising Modi’s strong commitment to Northeast India development.
In Manipur, this marks Modi’s first trip since ethnic clashes broke out between the Meitei and Kuki communities in May 2023. The violence has badly hit the state’s economy, social fabric, and politics, causing ongoing tensions. On Saturday, Modi urged all ethnic groups to drop the violence and join hands for peace. He spoke of a “new dawn of hope and confidence” emerging in the northeastern state.
Modi also kicked off several big development projects worth over Rs 7,300 crore in Churachandpur, Manipur, boosting infrastructure and growth in the area.
On a different note, Saha attended the 22nd National and 2nd International Indian Forensic Odontology Conference (IAFOCON-25) at the National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU) in Gandhinagar. As an oral maxillofacial surgeon himself, he was thrilled to be there. “I’m very happy today because I know this field well, and when the NFSU Vice Chancellor invited me, I said yes right away,” Saha said. He stressed how vital forensic odontology is for justice and investigations.
Saha also pointed out NFSU’s growth, mentioning its new branch in Tripura with fresh courses kicking off. “The whole world knows about NFSU, and this expansion is great news for us,” he added.
