“Not the first incident, law and order collapsing in Gorakhpur”: Akhilesh Yadav slams UP govt over youth’s death

Akhilesh Yadav Slams UP Government Over Medical Student’s Murder in Gorakhpur

Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav has hit out at the Uttar Pradesh government after a tragic incident in Gorakhpur, where a young medical student lost his life in a clash with cattle smugglers. He called it a clear sign of crumbling law and order in Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s own assembly constituency.

Yadav pointed out that this isn’t the first such shocking crime in the area. "A businessman was killed by police here earlier too," he said, adding that injustice runs deep in Gorakhpur and nearby regions. "This raises big questions about the law and order situation in Uttar Pradesh. What are the police doing?" he asked.

The heartbreaking event unfolded on Monday night in Mauachapi village under Pipraich Police Station in Gorakhpur. Deepak Gupta, a 19-year-old NEET aspirant dreaming of becoming a doctor, confronted cattle smugglers who arrived in three vehicles around 12:30 am. When villagers, including Deepak, tried to stop them from untying the cattle, the smugglers grabbed him, drove around for an hour, crushed his head, and dumped his body 4 km away.

The news sparked outrage—angry villagers protested with stone-pelting and blocked roads, demanding justice for the cattle smuggling murder in Gorakhpur.

Gorakhpur SSP Raj Karan Nayyar shared more details: "We got a tip at 3 am about smugglers in two pickup vans. One vehicle got stuck, and the villagers chased the other. The smugglers took Deepak in their vehicle and later pushed him out, causing a fatal head injury." Police have registered a case based on the family’s complaint, and a post-mortem is underway.

In response, Akhilesh Yadav demanded a thorough probe into cattle smuggling activities in Gorakhpur. He also called for Rs 5 crore compensation and a government job for Deepak’s family, stressing how costly medical education is in India. "The Chief Minister should understand this," he urged.

Yadav highlighted the political weight of the issue, noting similar crimes in Ghazipur, Kaushambi, and Gorakhpur without strong action. "If law and order fails in the CM’s home turf, it’s a huge worry for Uttar Pradesh," he said.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath acted quickly, sending the District Magistrate, SSP, Inspector General, and other top officials to the scene. They’re talking to the family, and as per CM’s orders, police promise strict action against the culprits in this Gorakhpur crime case.

This incident has once again put the spotlight on law and order challenges in Uttar Pradesh, especially in sensitive areas like Gorakhpur.
