‘Nothing is permanent in politics’: Siddaramaiah hours after solidarity remark on Cong ‘crisis’

In early December, after publicly supporting Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar amid the state’s leadership clash, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah sparked fresh friction by remarking that nothing in politics lasts forever.
During a discussion with Congress MLA Belur Gopalakrishna, the CM, unaware that microphones were active, declared, “Nothing is permanent in politics. I don’t worry about anything; politics is not our father’s property. I have never thought much of such matters. Whatever has to happen will happen.”
Political analysts noted that these words called into question the earlier joint pledge of unity between the two leaders.
Earlier that day, the chief minister enjoyed idlis and a non‑vegetarian dish at a breakfast gathering at Shivakumar’s home, who also serves as the state’s Congress president. Shivakumar’s brother and former MP D. K. Suresh, together with staunch party supporter MLA H. D. Ranganath, were among the attendees.
Following the breakfast, Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar addressed the press together, describing themselves as “brothers” and reaffirming their continued collaboration for the party.
When asked about a future appointment, the CM replied that Shivakumar would step into the chief‑minister’s role when the party decides.
He also outlined preparations for the Winter Session, set to begin on December 8 and run for two weeks, highlighting strategy discussions on confronting a looming no‑confidence motion, the BJP’s preparations, and other key issues.
BJP MP Basavaraj Bommai satirized the meeting, saying, “The breakfast meeting between the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister is just a teaser; the real movie is yet to come. The film will be released in a few days. Picture abhi baaki hai.”
In a separate interview in New Delhi, the former chief minister hinted that the true dynamics within the Congress would unfold shortly.
