In a big step for education in Jharkhand, Chief Minister Hemant Soren announced that Netarhat Residential School will now admit girls starting from the upcoming academic session. Established in 1954, Netarhat Residential School has long been considered one of the state’s top institutions for boys, earning the nickname “Doon School of Jharkhand.” Located in the scenic forested hills of Latehar district, the school has a proud history of producing over 500 civil servants, including many IAS and IPS officers.
This decision to go co-educational marks a historic change, opening doors for girls at one of Jharkhand’s most prestigious schools. The CM also shared plans to set up three new high-quality residential schools modeled after Netarhat, to give more students access to top-tier education.
During a recent event, CM Soren handed over appointment letters to 975 new teachers, including postgraduate-trained educators, assistant professors, and laboratory assistants. The event was not just about appointments — it was also a celebration of academic achievement. The CM felicitated students who excelled in the 2025 matriculation and intermediate exams conducted by Jharkhand Academic Council (JAC), as well as top performers from CBSE and ICSE boards.
Top students received exciting prizes like a 125 cc scooter, laptops, mobile phones, and Rs 3 lakh in cash to help with their further studies. CM Soren emphasized that education remains his government’s top priority. “We want government schools to be as good as private schools,” he said, aiming to ensure every child gets the resources and opportunities they deserve.
The government is also supporting students financially through schemes like the Guruji Credit Card, which offers loans up to Rs 15 lakh without collateral — making higher education more affordable. There’s also a 100% scholarship scheme to encourage students to pursue studies abroad.
Additionally, the event marked the launch of new initiatives like the Swachh Vidyalaya Puraskar Yojana, encouraging cleanliness and innovation in schools, and the Jharkhand E-Shiksha Mahotsav, which promotes the use of technology and creative teaching methods in education.
Jharkhand’s education ministers and senior officials were present to witness this important day, showing the government’s strong commitment to improving education and opening more opportunities for students across the state.
