NSCN (K) militant arrested in Arunachal; arms recovered

Itanagar, Dec 6 (LatestNewsX) – The Assam Rifles, working hand‑in‑hand with the Arunachal Pradesh Police, arrested an active member of the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN‑K, Niki Sumi faction) in the “Hukanjuri” area of Tirap district, officials said on Saturday.

A police officer explained that the joint operation was triggered by credible intelligence confirming an armed insurgent was present in the Hukanjuri region. Acting promptly, a combined column of Assam Rifles troops and Arunachal police moved to the suspected spot and carried out a “precise and carefully planned” intervention, keeping the insurgent from escaping or endangering civilians.

During the raid, the joint team captured self‑styled “Captain Jenlong Supong,” an armed member of the NSCN‑K (Niki Sumi) faction. The raid also recovered a pistol, a magazine, six live rounds, a mobile phone and a PAN card from the captured cadre. After the arrest, the militant was handed over to the Khonsa Police for investigation and legal proceedings in line with established protocols.

“The arrest of the hardcore cadre of the militant outfit reflected the strong coordination between security forces to maintain peace and stability in the region,” the officer said.

The NSCN‑K‑Niki Sumi faction has not signed a ceasefire agreement with the Centre, unlike several other Naga groups such as the Isak‑Muivah faction of the National Socialist Council of Nagalim (NSCN‑IM), which have signed a ceasefire and are now in talks.

Meanwhile, in line with the Ministry of Home Affairs notification, the Nagaland Home Department (Political) has recently declared the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (Khaplang) (NSCN‑(K)), along with all of its factions, wings and front organisations, an “Unlawful Association” under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967.
