Govt to boost exports of tribal products: Piyush Goyal

New Delhi, Nov 12 – Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal told a crowd at the Tribal Business Conclave 2025 that the Government will back every tribal product that can reach foreign markets. The plan will use e‑commerce sites, special warehousing for display and sales, and a mix of wholesale and retail networks to put these goods in front of buyers worldwide.

Goyal said the Minister for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade has a new export‑promotion scheme in the works. “We want tribal artisans to enjoy the same visibility and market access as any other product,” he said. “Our aim is to make tribal goods shine both at home and abroad.”

The event, organised by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), the Tribal Affairs ministry, and the Culture ministry, ran as part of the Janjatiya Gaurav Varsh. That celebration marks the 150th birth anniversary of freedom‑fighter Birsa Munda, whose leadership the minister praised. “Birsa showed the way for our indigenous communities,” Goyal said. “We must follow his example to lift tribal livelihoods and spread prosperity.”

Both domestic and global markets, the minister pointed out, hold huge opportunities for tribal crafts and raw materials. He reminded the audience that Prime Minister Narendra Modi believes India’s growth hinges on empowering its tribal and remote communities. “Progress must touch every household,” he added.

In line with this vision, the ministry has raised its budget by 50 percent for the year. Under the PM‑Janman Yojana, roughly 5 million families from vulnerable tribal groups have received assistance. The government has disbursed ₹24,000 crore so far to improve their living standards.

The conclave drew more than 250 tribal enterprises, 150 exhibitors and over 100 start‑ups. They showcased new products and ideas on the “Roots to Rise” pitching platform. Direct meetings between buyers and sellers created clear pathways for market entry, skill‑boosting and policy advice. The event set a vibrant tone for scaling tribal value chains from villages to global markets.
