Odisha CM Mohan Majhi asserts no leniency for criminals; safety of women, children top priority

On Thursday, while discussing Odisha’s supplementary budget in the state assembly, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi made it clear that his BJP‑led government will not offer any indulgence to criminals, emphasizing that the safety of women and children tops the cabinet’s agenda. He assured residents that the ruling party adopts a zero‑tolerance policy against crime. Targeting the opposition BJD, Majhi said the “Political Protection License” that criminals supposedly enjoyed under the previous administration has lapsed and will not be renewed. “If offenders do not reform, I’ve already told the police to act through the proper legal channels,” he added. “Anyone who dares to challenge law and order will find the police ready and determined. This is my pledge to the people of Odisha.”
Majhi highlighted the crucial role of a strong law‑and‑order framework in achieving a prosperous Odisha and a developed India, noting that the Home Department is pivotal for rapid industrialisation and overall state progress. He reiterated that protecting women, children, the vulnerable and marginalized remains a foremost priority. Over the past eighteen months, the state has fortified its police force and fire services and maintained a calm security environment. Odisha has also successfully hosted several national and international events—including multiple visits by the Prime Minister and President, the National DGPs Conference, Pravasi Bharatiya Diwas, the Utkal Udaya–Make in Odisha Conclave, the Indian Road Congress, Navy Day celebrations, the International Lighthouse Festival, and other high‑profile visits—while preserving communal harmony across communities. gyan/pgh
