Congress Leader Urges Odisha Speaker to Recover Stolen Items from MLAs After Assembly Chaos
In a fresh push for justice, Congress Legislature Party leader Rama Chandra Kadam has written to Odisha Assembly Speaker Surama Padhy, demanding quick action to get back valuables stolen from Congress MLAs during a midnight scuffle inside the House. This incident happened back in March, and Kadam wants the speaker to step in right away to trace the missing gold chains, watches, goggles, pants, shirts, and other personal items.
Kadam’s letter highlights the wild chaos that erupted on March 26 at around 2:30 a.m., right after the suspension of 12 Congress legislators. He questions what steps have been taken so far against the "anti-social elements" who sneaked into the assembly and grabbed these belongings. "No items have been returned to us yet," Kadam wrote, pressing for immediate recovery efforts.
The trouble started on March 25 when the Congress MLAs disrupted proceedings by playing traditional musical instruments and blowing whistles. The speaker suspended them for the disruptions, but the leaders refused to budge. They staged a sit-in protest inside the assembly, calling for a House committee to probe rising cases of atrocities against women in Odisha.
Things turned ugly when security personnel forcibly removed the suspended MLAs late that night. Congress leaders claim they faced assaults during the eviction, and their valuables got snatched in the process. This Odisha Assembly suspension drama has left the party fuming, with Kadam now urging Speaker Padhy to launch a proper investigation and return the stolen goods soon.
The episode has sparked debates on assembly security and MLA rights, keeping the spotlight on Odisha politics. Congress hopes this letter will finally bring some resolution to the March incident.
