One arrested in connection with desecration of Goddess Kali idol in Bengal’s Kakdwip

In West Bengal, police say the recent damage to a Kali idol in Kakdwip is a lone incident, not part of any larger political plot. The broken shrine is located in the Suryanagar gram panchayat of the South 24 Parganas district, where authorities quickly caught the culprit.

Narayan Halder, a 28‑year‑old man from the village, admitted to smashing the idol while drunk. He told police that he regretted his actions and has been taken into custody. The police posted the confession online, stressing that the violence was an isolated act by a single individual.

Police are still digging into the case. They’ve filed two chargesheets: one for vandalism and another for blocking a road near the temple. While no additional arrests are made yet for the road blockade, investigators are reviewing local CCTV footage in hopes of spotting anyone else involved.

West Bengal’s police urge people to stop spreading rumors about the incident. They remind citizens that the sanctity of Maa Kali deserves protection and that the police will do everything they can to keep the area safe and respect religious feelings.

The authorities are also watching for any signs that the incident might be part of an effort by a few bad actors to stir trouble or spread misinformation. They welcome anyone with information to come forward as investigations continue.
