In the early hours of Nov. 30, police in New Delhi reported a serious hit‑and‑run involving a Mercedes G63 that crashed through a pole and struck three people waiting at an auto‑stand in the upscale Vasant Kunj area near Ambience Mall. The wreck occurred shortly after midnight, around 2 a.m., and left two men wounded and a third, 23‑year‑old Rohit from Cha‑moli, Uttarakhand, dead.
First responders found all three victims on the pavement and rushed the injured to nearby hospitals. The 35‑year‑old and 23‑year‑old men are still receiving treatment. According to witnesses, the three men were employed at a restaurant inside the mall.
A relative of the deceased, Hemant Bisht, told reporters, “It was a Mercedes and the time was around 2 a.m., when the car ran over these three. The driver was drunk. Rohit could not survive.”
Police identified the driver as 29‑year‑old Shivam from Karol Bagh. He was with his wife and elder brother when the incident happened, officials said. A preliminary investigation indicates the vehicle lost control because of a diversion, hit the pole, and then collided with the mall employees. Shivam and his family were heading home after a wedding, and the SUV was owned by his friend Abhishek.
The investigation is ongoing and authorities are still gathering details. This incident follows a similar incident in Rajouri Garden earlier this month, when a Mercedes struck a motorcycle, injuring two riders who were hospitalized with leg fractures.
