One-man judicial commission gives clean chit to K’taka CM Siddaramaiah in MUDA case

In a big relief for Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, a special judicial commission has cleared him and his family of any wrongdoing in the MUDA land case. The one-man commission, led by Justice P.N. Desai, released its report, saying there’s no proof linking Siddaramaiah or his relatives to illegal land deals related to MUDA (Mysuru Urban Development Authority).

Karnataka’s Law Minister H.K. Patil shared this news after a Cabinet meeting. He told reporters in Bengaluru that the commission’s report was divided into two parts and confirmed that the allegations against Siddaramaiah, his wife Parvati, and his brother-in-law Mallikarjunaswamy were baseless.

However, the report did point out some irregularities. It recommends action against certain officials for their role in the land allotments. The government has accepted these findings.

The MUDA case involves accusations that land worth 14 sites was unfairly allotted to Siddaramaiah’s family. The controversy is being investigated by both the Karnataka Lokayukta and the Enforcement Directorate (ED). Activist Snehamayi Krishna has filed a petition in the High Court asking for a CBI investigation, while Siddaramaiah has asked courts to dismiss all proceedings against him.

The report explains that in some cases, MUDA gave land as compensation to landowners whose property was de-notified. For instance, land in Kesare village was used to compensate landowners by giving them sites, as per a 2017 resolution. But in 2022, some sites were allotted to others following the same payment method used for other cases. The report states this process was legal because MUDA doesn’t have legal ownership of the de-notified lands.

It also criticizes MUDA commissioners who worked between 2020 and 2024. It claims they randomly and illegally allotted sites without following proper rules. The report accuses these officials of unfairly providing alternative land sites, which could indicate a scam.

Overall, the commission’s findings suggest that while there were procedural lapses, Siddaramaiah and his family were not involved in any illegal land dealings. The report helps clear the air and emphasizes the importance of following proper land allotment procedures to prevent corruption.
