Lili Reinhart diagnosed with endometriosis: Glad I trusted my body, listened to my gut

On December 12 in Los Angeles, actress Lili Reinhart told the public that she lives with endometriosis. She explained that years of ongoing pain and uncertainty finally led to a clear diagnosis after a laparoscopic surgery last week.
Endometriosis is when tissue that normally lines the uterus grows elsewhere in the pelvis, causing painful cramps, especially around menstruation.
Reinhart, known for playing Betty Cooper on Riverdale and for her roles in Hustlers and Chemical Hearts, posted a series of hospital‑bed photos on Instagram and chronicled how long before her diagnosis she had been in search for answers.
“Last week, I was officially diagnosed with endometriosis following laparoscopic surgery. Last year, I saw a urogynecologist and was diagnosed with interstitial cystitis. I was told there was no cure—and no lasting relief for my symptoms,” she wrote.
She added that she had come through “three hospital visits.”
“Multiple urologists and gynecologists. And not one of them seriously considered endometriosis as the underlying cause of what I was experiencing.”
It wasn’t until she began working with pelvic‑floor therapists that she was even told the possibility of endometriosis.
“It wasn’t until I worked with two different pelvic floor therapists that the word endometriosis was even mentioned to me as a possible source of my pain. I pushed for an MRI on my own, which led to a diagnosis of adenomyosis.”
From there, she saw an endometriosis specialist who helped her weigh laparoscopic surgery as the next step; at the same time, another gynecologist suggested she “probably didn’t have endo” and should simply take birth‑control pills.
The actress expressed relief at having heeded her body’s signals.
“I’m glad I trusted my body and listened to my gut and will continue advocating for others to do so.”
