People of Bihar in no mood to tolerate Lalu’s family again: BJP

New Delhi, Oct 24 – The Bihar assembly race is heating up after the Mahagathbandhan announced Tejashwi Yadav as its chief ministerial candidate. The move fired up debate across the state and beyond.

### Ruling‑party backlash

Uttar Pradesh cabinet minister Jaiveer Singh slammed the decision. “Bihar voters remember the chaos of the Lalu era—looting, illegal land grabs, and unchecked hooliganism,” he told . “Those ugly memories still influence Tejashwi. The people of Bihar are not ready to bring back the Yadav legacy again.” His comments reflect a growing impatience among voters who want fresh leadership.

### Defenders of the alliance

Congress MP Sukhdev Bhagat defended the choice. “Tejashwi is a proven leader—he served as Deputy Chief Minister and knows the politics of Bihar,” he said. “The INDI Alliance has made its statement. Now it’s the NDA’s duty to announce a candidate, but they do not want to blame Nitish Kumar. I urge the BJP to publicly name Nitish as its CM face.” The debate underscores how the alliance is still trying to balance identities and regional strengths.

### Inside the alliance

RJD MP Manoj Kumar Jha also weighed in. “We’ve acted responsibly; nothing was done wrong. Stay tuned—we will soon explain why Tejashwi rightly belongs at the front,” he said. He added that Bihar must not repeat Maharashtra’s “one‑leader‑turn‑into‑Deputy‑CM” pattern and stressed the need for clear direction. Jha’s remarks echo the alliance’s intention to present a united front.

### Press‑conference details

The announcement came at a joint press conference held at Hotel Maurya in Patna. Former Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot announced that Tejashwi will lead the alliance and that Mukesh Sahani will stand for deputy chief minister. “Tejashwi is young, committed, and has kept his promises,” Gehlot said. The decision follows months of negotiations over seat‑sharing, particularly between RJD and Congress.

### Seat‑sharing and internal friction

The final formula gives RJD 143 seats, a strong hold on the Muslim‑Yadav base. Congress will contest 70 seats, a figure it used in the 2020 elections but earned only 19 seats—a 27‑percent win rate. The dispute over seat allocation and CM candidate choice kept the alliance tense right up to the nomination deadline.

### What this means for Bihar

With Tejashwi Yadav set as the Mahagathbandhan’s chief ministerial face, the alliance aims to consolidate its voter base and challenge the BJP and NDA’s influence. Voters now face a clear choice: a youthful, experienced contender or an alternative that may keep the legacy of Lalu Yadav alive.

The Bihar assembly election draws nearer, and the rivalry between the alliances heats up. Stay tuned for more updates on campaign strategies, candidate introductions, and the shifting political landscape in India’s second‑largest state.
