NIA Arrests Bihar PFI Chief in Phulwarisharif Conspiracy Case
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has made another big arrest in the 2022 Phulwarisharif criminal conspiracy case. On Saturday, they nabbed Mahboob Alam, also known as Mahboob Alam Nadvi, who serves as the Bihar state president of the banned Popular Front of India (PFI). Officials caught him in Kishanganj, Bihar.
Mahboob Alam hails from Hasanganj in Katihar district. This marks the 19th arrest in the case, which started with local police filing charges against 26 people. Now, NIA has taken over the probe into these serious anti-national activities.
What exactly happened? PFI members, including Alam, worked to stir up trouble by spreading religious hatred and creating fear among communities. Their goal? To disrupt peace, challenge India’s harmony, and even push for an "Islamic rule" in the country by 2047, as outlined in a secret PFI document called "India 2047: Towards Rule of Islam in India." Investigators seized this document from Ahmad Palace in Phulwarisharif, Patna, on July 11, 2022.
NIA says Alam played a key role in the conspiracy. He helped recruit new members, organized training sessions and meetings, and carried out other PFI activities that went against national interests. On top of that, he collected funds and passed them on to fellow accused and PFI workers.
The investigation continues under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, or UA(P) Act. NIA aims to uncover more details about this plot that threatened public safety and unity.
