Kishtwar, Dec 9 (LatestNewsX) – The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PM AY), a flagship initiative of the Narendra Modi government, has brought a permanent home to thousands of poor households in Jammu & Kashmir’s Kishtwar district and to hundreds of thousands across the nation.
For many, the programme has turned a long‑held wish into reality, offering them security and dignity. In Kishtwar, the impact is especially dramatic. Once, monsoon rains would seep into fragile mud‑bricks and flood living spaces. Today, government‑constructed pucca houses shield families from such hardships, giving them peace of mind and a steadier life.
Puran Chand Thakrai, a Kishtwar resident and now a PM AY beneficiary, shared his experience with LatestNewsX. He said, “Earlier, rainwater used to flood our mud house, but now, because of PM AY, we no longer face this problem. We thank Prime Minister Narendra Modi for giving us a permanent house under this welfare scheme. Because of this, all poor families are now living a better life.”
Another beneficiary echoed Thakrai’s sentiment, adding that the scheme has lifted the poor’s standard of living by providing not just shelter but also a safer, more comfortable environment. “We thank Prime Minister Modi for building permanent houses for the poor. This scheme has provided people with safe and permanent living conditions,” he said.
These voices illustrate the transformative power of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Rural). It is more than a housing programme; it’s a catalyst for self‑respect, stability, and a hopeful future.
According to Manohar Lal, Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs, the Centre has already delivered 95.54 lakh houses under the two PM AY schemes to beneficiaries, as reported in Parliament on Tuesday.
