World Boxing C’ships: Lakshya Chahar dominates Iashaish to reach pre-quarters

Indian Boxers Shine at World Boxing Championships in Liverpool

India’s boxing stars are making waves at the World Boxing Championships in Liverpool. On Sunday, Lakshya Chahar delivered a sharp performance to advance in the men’s 80kg category. He blanked Jordan’s Hussein Iashaish with a convincing 5:0 win, securing his spot in the round of 16.

Lakshya started strong, attacking right from the bell. The Jordanian fought back in the second round, but Lakshya turned up the heat in the third to dominate the bout completely. This victory keeps India’s hopes high in the men’s 80kg boxing event.

Earlier that day, things didn’t go as planned for Pawan Bartwal in the men’s 55kg category. He faced a tough 0:5 loss to Uzbekistan’s Mirzakhalolov Mirazizbek, ending his campaign at the championships.

Shifting to Saturday’s action, Nikhat Zareen kicked off her run with a flawless performance in the women’s 51kg category. The 29-year-old, a two-time world champion, showed no signs of ring rust despite skipping international events this year. She controlled USA’s Jennifer Lozano from the start and earned a unanimous 5:0 decision. Nikhat Zareen continues to prove why she’s a top name in women’s boxing.

Sadly, it wasn’t all smooth for the other Indian boxers on Saturday. Tokyo Olympics bronze medalist Lovlina Borgohain suffered a 0:5 defeat to Turkey’s Busra Isildar in the women’s 75kg second round. In the men’s 70kg bout, Hitesh Gulia put up a brave fight but fell 1:4 to Netherlands’ Finn Robert Bos.

India has sent a strong 20-member contingent to this inaugural World Boxing Championships, organized by the new governing body World Boxing. The event marks a fresh chapter for international boxing.

Excitement builds for Sunday’s evening session, where three more Indian boxers step into the ring. Jaismine takes on Brazil’s Jucielen Cerqueira Romeu in the women’s 57kg category. Sanamacha Chanu faces Kazakhstan’s Natalya Bogdanova in women’s 70kg, and Abhinash Jamwal battles Mexico’s Hugo Barron in men’s 65kg. Fans are rooting for more wins from these talented athletes at the World Boxing Championships 2024. Stay tuned for updates on Indian boxing triumphs!
