Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated veteran journalist Rajat Sharma on his re-election as president of the News Broadcasters and Digital Association (NBDA). In a warm letter, Modi highlighted Sharma’s lasting impact on Indian journalism and his key role in guiding the media industry through fast-changing times.
Sharma, who chairs and edits India TV, brings decades of experience to the job. Modi praised his deep knowledge across topics and his strong credibility. “The Association will benefit from your decades-long experience in journalism, your deep understanding of various subjects, and your credibility,” Modi wrote. He added that Sharma’s leadership will shine in the shifting world of traditional and digital media.
Modi feels sure that NBDA will hit new milestones under Sharma, while sticking to high journalistic standards, public interest, and national values. “I am confident that NBDA will reach new heights under your leadership,” the prime minister said, wishing him success in the 2025-2026 term.
Sharma’s win came at the NBDA board meeting on September 19, 2025. The group represents India’s biggest network of private news broadcasters and digital media players. It sets ethical rules, fights for press freedom, and tackles issues like digital disruptions and changing viewer habits.
Teaming up with Sharma are new leaders: MV Shreyams Kumar, managing director of Mathrubhumi Printing and Publishing, as vice-president, and Anuradha Prasad Shukla, chairperson and managing director of News24 Broadcast India, as honorary treasurer.
With Sharma back in charge, experts expect NBDA to push for responsible journalism and fresh ways to deliver news. This keeps the organization strong amid India’s evolving media scene.
